The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that more than 60 Russian soldiers were released from Ukrainian captivity as a result of negotiations. Some of them belong to the so-called sensitive category – they were released thanks to the mediation of the UAE leadership, the agency said.
“As a result of a complex negotiation process, 63 servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation were returned from the territory of Ukraine controlled by the Kyiv regime,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.
“The group of released Russian servicemen includes persons of a “sensitive category”, whose exchange became possible thanks to the mediation efforts of the leadership of the United Arab Emirates,” the report says.
“Currently, all military personnel are on the territory of the Russian Federation,” the Russian Defense Ministry said. “They are receiving the necessary psychological and medical assistance, and they are also given the opportunity to contact their relatives.”
On January 8, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced the return of 50 Russian servicemen who were held captive in Ukraine following negotiations.
Prior to this, the agency informed about the release from Ukrainian captivity after negotiations between several groups of Russian military in December and November 2022.
