Billa Bulgaria Invests 2.5 Mln Euro in Store Renovation

Supermarket chain operator Billa Bulgaria, part of Germany’s REWE Group, said on Thursday it has spent 5 million levs ($2.8 million/2.6 million euro) on the refurbishment of one of its first stores in the capital Sofia.

The retailer has deployed for the first time new technology that allows the residual temperature from the refrigerating units to be used for heating in the winter season, Billa Bulgaria said in a press release.

The upgraded store, with 180 parking spaces, has also been equipped with state-of-the-art refrigeration and LED lighting systems.

In June, the supermarket retailer revealed plans to invest over 32 million levs in the reconsrtruction or upgrade of 45 stores across the country in 2023.

Billa, which entered the Bulgarian market in 2000, operates 149 stores in 46 cities in Bulgaria and has also been selling online through the Glovo app since April.

In 2022, the retailer increased its turnover by an annual 24% to roughly 1.24 billion levs.
